Port Elizabeth
Port Elizabeth is a major seaport and manufacturing centre, especially for the motor industry, and is South Africa’s second largest in terms of area and the fifth largest in population. The Airport is an important tourism transport hub as well as a key cargo distribution centre for local industry. It currently handles more than one million passengers per year and significant volumes of freight.
The “Ten Minute Airport” is situated within five minutes drive from the Port Elizabeth central business district and from the beachfront. The airport is also well placed to serve local industry as it is no more than ten minutes from other areas of importance in the city.
The growth of tourism in the region, along with preparations for the 2010 Football World Cup, have required a number of improvements including a terminal expansion which can now handle up to two million passengers every year. This upgrade provides a central retail area as well as a fully compliant international arrivals and departures terminal to complement upgraded amenities for domestic traffic.
